Fire letters are part of the review process for certain property improvements, construction projects, and occupancy-related requests. A complete application helps move review, inspection coordination, and issuance forward with fewer delays.

What is a Fire Letter?

A fire letter is part of the fire review process for certain projects and properties. Applications are submitted to the Morongo Valley Fire Department for tracking, scheduling, and accounting before being forwarded for review or inspection processing.

The Morongo Valley Fire Department uses an outside third-party vendor for plan reviews and inspections. Department staff help facilitate the application process, inspection scheduling, and billing.

How the process works

1. Download the application
Open the fillable Residential Fire Letter Application and complete all applicable sections.
2. Complete and sign the form
The application must be signed by the property owner before it is submitted.
3. Gather all supporting files
Include all plans, calculations, test information, and any supporting documents that apply to your project.
4. Submit by email
Email the completed application and supporting documents to fireletters@morongovalleyfire.org.
5. Pay required fees
All fees must be paid before review, inspection, or letter issuance can be completed.
6. Respond to corrections or inspections
Depending on your project, revised plans, additional reviews, or one or more inspections may be required before completion.

What to submit

Your submittal should include the application and all supporting materials that apply to your project.

  • Fire Letter Application
  • Project plans
  • Sprinkler plans
  • Sprinkler calculations
  • Above-ground storage tank plans, if applicable
  • Hydrant flow test information
  • Knox Box information for commercial properties
  • Any additional supporting documents requested for your project

What happens after you submit?

Your application is received and logged by the fire department.
Materials are forwarded for review or inspection coordination.
If corrections are needed, updated plans or documents must be resubmitted.
Depending on the scope of work, one or more inspections may be required.

Avoid delays

  • Make sure the owner signed the application
  • Include all required plans and supporting documents
  • Double-check contact and billing information before sending
  • Be ready to resubmit corrected plans if requested
  • Schedule required inspections on time
  • Keep copies of everything you submit

Important notes

Plan reviews may take 14 to 30 days from the date of each submission.
If corrections are required, resubmittals are treated as a new review and a separate fee may apply.
Missed or failed inspections may result in an additional fee.
Contractors are responsible for knowing conditions of approval and scheduling required inspections in a timely manner.

Commercial property note

Commercial businesses may also be subject to annual inspections and occupancy-related requirements under the adopted fee schedule.
